His father initiated him into the cake business at an early age, and he's since taken the bakery—and the art of cakes—to new heights, becoming a renowned master baker, cake decorator and TV star.
The New York Times describes the ongoing tension that infuses the show, as the Cake Boss deals with "everything from bungled orders to spats with his employees," but also emphasizes the close relationships between family members that makes this a true behind-the-scenes portrait of the American Dream.
