If you dream about fondant and fudge, frosting and filling; if your career ambition is to go to culinary school and learn to be a top baker or pastry chef, then you won't want to miss TLC's latest reality cooking show, Cake Boss, which debuted earlier this year. You'll see some stunningly elaborate confectionery creations, get a sneak peek into the drama of a family-run bakery business—and you just might learn a few valuable tips and cake-baking secrets.

Buddy Valastro—aka the Cake Boss—runs Carlo's City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken, New Jersey, with the help of his wife, mother, four older sisters and even some of his brothers-in-law. Though he's not a graduate of a formal culinary school, the Cake Boss comes from a long line of accomplished bakers: four generations, to be exact. His father initiated him into the cake business at an early age, and he's since taken the bakery—and the art of cakes—to new heights, becoming a renowned master baker, cake decorator and TV star.

The New York Times describes the ongoing tension that infuses the show, as the Cake Boss deals with "everything from bungled orders to spats with his employees," but also emphasizes the close relationships between family members that makes this a true behind-the-scenes portrait of the American Dream.

If your American Dream is to be a master cake baker, look into culinary school today!
