A former loan officer quit her job at the age of 36 and enrolled in culinary school. Now she owns a bistro in Maryland with her business partner.

Carla Lucente is the co-owner of a bistro in Annapolis, according to the Baltimore Sun. But she hasn't always been a foodie. At one point, she even worked for a construction company. About seven years ago, she started attending a culinary school in Baltimore. After graduation, she met Stacey Jackowski, and by 2007, the two were running a bistro.

Lucente is a hard worker. She normally starts at around 7:15 a.m. and works a 10-hour day. She told the paper that her bistro is financially healthy, in spite of the recession.

When the Sun asked Lucente what her favorite part about being a business owner is she said, "The immediate gratification of being able to feed someone the food I love to prepare and having them be happy and satisfied."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of people participating in culinary arts programs is growing.
