Industry insiders and cooking school students aren't the only ones attending food and wine festivals these days. Along with the ever-increasing popularity of cooking-related television shows and the mind-boggling plethora of food blogs, festivals and events are also getting amateur foodies in on the act by enabling them to experience the best culinary delights from around the world.
From heavily-publicized events such as the South Beach (Florida) Wine and Food Festival, sponsored by the Food Network, to the tiny Caribbean island of St. Croix's Food and Wine Experience, festivals provide the opportunity to mingle with and learn from international culinary luminaries, as well as giving attendees a taste of local specialties. Not only that, it's a great excuse to travel.
Here are just a few of the upcoming food and wine events this fall:
- Celebrity Chef Tour – benefiting the James Beard Foundation
- New York City's WLIW21 Autumn Gourmet Classic, featuring PBS chefs, including Jacques Pépin
- The Sydney International Food Festival in Australia
