The Rewards of Hotel and Restaurant Management Jobs

Couple enjoys restaurant atmosphere

In the hotel and restaurant industry, as with other industries, management's earnings are at the top of the pay scale. The daily demands can be fierce, but for people with a passion for the business, it can pay off in both job satisfaction as well as a good salary.

Besides your paycheck, there are a number of benefits to consider. Managers often earn bonuses of up to 50 percent of their basic salary, and they may receive free or discounted meals, rooms, parking or other services. In addition, you may be eligible for benefits such as profit-sharing, retirement plans or tuition reimbursement.

Of course, when you're considering your future earning potential in the hotel and restaurant management fields, keep in mind that several factors play into your compensation. For instance, the following kinds of things may affect how much you will earn:

  • Where you live
  • How many years of experience you have
  • Your education level
  • What kind of job you're looking for within the hospitality industry
  • What type of company you work for

With so many factors in play, it can be difficult predict your salary. However, the table below will give you a general idea of what to expect:*

Job Title Years Experience Salary Range for Middle 50%
Assistant Restaurant Manager 2 – 4 years $30,280 – 42,918
Restaurant Manager 4 – 6 years $36,676 – 53,764
Hotel Manager 7 years $64,676 – 118,658
